Kingscliff paddleboarder through to third round in Hawaii

KINGSCLIFF paddleboarder Beau Nixon is staking a claim at Hawaii's Sunset Beach after a convincing round three win on the Standup World Tour event.

Nixon won his heat in round three of competition with a 14.75 point score over two Hawaiian boarders Slater Trout (7.1) and Kody Kerbox (9.75).

Competitors were facing big, powerful waves that provided spectacular rides, heavy wipe-outs and drama, for round one, the repechage and part of round three of the main event on Sunday.

Nixon goes through to the fourth round against Hawaiians Kerbox and Aaron Napoleon, and Casper Steinfath from Denmark.

Fellow Tweed paddleboarder and world number six Justin Holland was knocked out in the third round.

Holland was up against two-time world champion Hawaiian Kai Lenny and former AFL player Dave Muir who won the heat in the late two minutes of competition.

Holland finished with nine points while Muir scored an impressive 16.65 just taking it at the post from Lenny on 15.8.
