CLOWNING around's the thing to do come end of term at Tweed Heads Public School.

The school's 37 kindy kids yesterday swapped their uni- forms for bow ties and wigs.

Teacher Cathy Mitchell said it was all inspired by a book the children had read about a clown called Smarty Pants.

"It's not difficult to inspire them to be clowns," she said.

A roller-door revealed the specially set up circus and caused squeals of delight.

Reuben and Skyla enjoyed the book and were keen to start playing with the trampoline and multi-coloured parachute.

"It was really funny when his pants blew up," Reuben said.

"He had a big red car, he played the trumpet and swam in the pool," Skyla said.
