Keeping ahead of technology
ONCE a term four local Catholic schools band together for an enrichment day of activities that complement the participating students' love of learning within a specific field of interest.
Twenty-four Year 5 and 6 students from the Casino Catholic Schools cluster, which includes St Joseph's Primary School Coraki, St Joseph's Primary School Woodburn, St Brigid's Primary School Kyogle and St Mary's Primary School Casino, got together for a multimedia enrichment day on Wednesday.
Held at St Mary's in Casino, the day allowed the students to get busy with advanced tasks for their age.
Organising this term's enrichment day was Tom Papworth, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) co-ordinator and student enrichment officer at St Mary's.
Mr Papworth explained how the schools embrace this student-enrichment program that offers excelling students an opportunity to participate in a range of subject-specific enrichment days to further enhance their areas of personal expertise.
He said this particular day of academic enhancement was aimed at providing computer-proficient students with the opportunity to further develop their technological knowledge and digital creativity. "This day is all about allowing tech-savvy students to put their knowledge into practice," he said.
During the day, the students were assigned a hypo- thetical design task which required them to utilise a range of computerised resources and digital devices.
Mr Papworth said the children thoroughly enjoyed the day and showed tremendous skill.
"They went above and beyond what I was expecting in terms of design and creativity," he said.
