INTERNATIONAL passenger numbers through the Gold Coast Airport jumped more than 20% in June, but it wasn't all good news.

According to statistics from Queensland Airports, the number of passengers through the Gold Coast Airport this financial year compared to the 2010/11 financial year had fallen 2.3%.

QAL managing director Dennis Chant said international traffic through the airport experienced significant growth in June.

"During the month of June Gold Coast Airport welcomed its newest airline partner, Scoot, operating five times weekly services between Singapore and the Gold Coast," Mr Chant said.

"This service sees an additional 16,884 international seats, both inbound and outbound, per month.

"International traffic into the Gold Coast was also boosted by a 26% jump in passengers on New Zealand routes."

Mr Chant said Gold Coast Airport experienced mixed results, but it was encouraging to see such strong growth leading into the next financial year.

Mr Chant said Queensland Airports' Townsville and Mount Isa business showed growth in passenger numbers for the year.
