Jockey Allan Chau to undergo more scans after fall
ALLAN Chau - the jockey who fell and fractured his C2 vertebrae in a race fall at Grafton on Saturday - is now at Gold Coast Hospital recieving specialist treatment.
Chau will undergo more scans in the coming days to determine if he will be required to wear a halo neck device for up to three months.
Doctors have also confirmed he fractured his jaw and right hand in the fall and has suffered extensive damage to shoulder ligaments.
``I've just gotten off the phone to him and he's in pretty good spirits,'' fellow jockey and close friend Matthew Paget said.
``He has also fractured his hand and jaw in the fall, and has torn all the ligaments in his shoulder.
``He is about to go in for more scans today to see if he will be necessary to wear a halo.
``He might be in that for up to three months if that's what the doctors decide is best."
A halo is a neck brace which screws into the skull of the patient to limit neck movement and allow injuries like Chau's to heal in the correct position.
