It's blood battle time

WHETHER you bleed maroon or blue, the Red Cross Blood Service needs your blood.

With game two of the NRL State of Origin almost here, the two states are preparing to go head to head, on and off the field.

Queensland and NSW are battling it out for the most blood donations and at midway through the challenge, it's those who bleed maroon just in front.

The tally stands at 12,258 blood donations for Queensland and 11,477 for the blues.

As the state prepares to enjoy another long weekend, the Australian Red Cross Blood Service is asking locals to continue to donate blood at special sessions being run across the state
