I Dice with Death Every Day

Every weekday morning I travel to Murwillumbah to work from Kennedy Drive.

And every morning I take my life into my own hands by trying to merge onto the Pacific Hwy using the Kennedy Drive on ramp. I am not surprised that the tragedy on Friday happened.

People daily risk their lives trying to merge onto an increasingly busy highway.

Some mornings there is nobody, others I can force my way out or worst case scenario I 'm stopped dead just before the bridge.

Whatever it is a stupid situation that has become worse by people slowing down as they approach the bridge because of the 80 km speed sign for the roadworks.

The trouble is I think the different behaviours of QLD and NSW drivers when it comes to merging.

NSW drivers will usually move to the outside lane at all times if they can.

QLD drivers will sit in the lane you need to merge into and stare at you uncomprehendingly as you honk your horn.

Many want to stay in the same lane so they can easily get off the highway at Tweed South further on.

Regardless it can often mean the daily commute becomes a dice with death just to get to work.

The solution to this mess would be to give merging traffic more of a lane or force traffic to give way.

I should not have to risk my life every morning just to go to work !!!!!!!!!!!!!
