Hoping to be the next Miss World
SOME might see her as a rose between two thorns.
Tweed teen Lauryn Cribb is the middle of three children, with a brother on either side.
It keeps this Miss World entrant real.
"I see myself as being pretty down-to-earth," she said.
She also has no illusions about competing with some of the most beautiful women in the world.
"I see it as a big challenge, but also as an adventure," the 18 year-old said.
Ms Cribb heads for Uluru for the Australian finals from June 27 to 30.
Competing with 26 others she is hoping to win a place in the international finals to be held in Inner Mongolia in August.
"She is having an interesting gap year," said her father and paramedic, Leon Cribb.
"Next year she will embark on a degree in digital media.
"She's getting insight into being on both sides of the camera.
"But she has also been raised with her feet firmly on the ground.
"With both parents being paramedics, she has heard a lot about the horror of teenage alcoholism, homelessness and drug abuse.
"It's made her and her brothers streetwise and aware.'
The famous pageant has the theme "Beauty with Purpose."
"I hope to really reflect that ethos," Ms Cribb said.
"I am keen to do as much fundraising as possible.
"It will be hard work.
"But I'm not shy of that."
Ms Cribb hopes to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research.
Her cousin has had two lung transplants at just 24 years of age.
"That really makes it all hit home," she said.
"I hope the pageant will give me the opportunity to prove myself.
'But realistically, I'm up against some stiff competition.
"It can be quite daunting.
"But I'm no princess.
"I'm up for the challenge."
