Man jailed for Gilmore bashing

A HOMELESS man who attacked world surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore with a metal bar outside her Tweed Heads home in late 2010 was sentenced to four years jail in Lismore Local Court on Thursday.

In sentencing, Judge Black heard Julius Fox, 27, was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia due to his homelessness, not taking medication and substance abuse including cannabis and heroin.

Fox was sentenced for reckless assault and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Judge Black imposed a non-parole period of three years.
