THE blossoming purple flowers may not be on the trees yet, but it's time to start thinking Jacaranda.

The Jacaranda Festival Committee will meet next week to start planning this year's festival, and festival manager Janelle Ellem said she hoped for community input about how to increase committee membership, business involvement and community participation in the events.

"The people of Grafton look forward to the festival every year. It's a time when we celebrate together and this was very evident last year after having experienced difficult times in the valley," she said.

"The committee would like to invite both the public and business houses to join them, provide feedback and ideas to help keep this wonderful festival alive.

"Community involvement is of great importance to the Grafton Jacaranda Festival Committee and at the end of last year, the committee conducted both public and business surveys, seeking feedback on the 2012 festival.

"It is important for a strong community to work together for a successful 2013 Jacaranda. The festival has evolved to become part of our folklore and is Australia's longest continuing floral festival."

The meeting is Tuesday at 5.30pm at the Grafton District Services Club.

Festivities kick-off with the Jacaranda Queen crowning on October 26, with a week of fun to follow.
