Heavy holiday traffic slows travel

MOTORISTS are being advised to remain patient after bottle-necks again developed on the Pacific Highway at Woodburn and Kempsey around lunchtime.

A 2km traffic queue that built up on the northern approach to Woodburn around 1pm has now cleared.

People heading into Byron Bay from the Pacific Highway at Ewingsdale were facing long delays about 1.15pm as traffic as built up from the police station back to the highway.

That traffic-jam has also now cleared.

The Traffic Management Centre is advising motorists to exercise caution and allow additional travel time.

A 10km line of traffic has formed heading into Kempsey northbound and a 5km queue heading south into Woolgoolga.

Traffic snarls have appeared both north and south of Macksville with a 3km southbound and a 1km northbound queue.

At 3.45pm today there were still delays for motorists on the Pacific Highway at the following locations:

  • Kempsey: 9km northbound queue which is adding an extra 30 minutes to travel time
  • Kempsey: 2km southbound queue which is adding an extra 10 minutes to travel time
  • Macksville: 12km southbound queue which is adding an extra hour to travel time
  • Woolgoogla: 1km southbound queue which is adding 5 minutes to travel time
