THREE men armed with a sledgehammer reversed a ute through a window of a Hastings Point petrol station last night.
About 3.10am, once inside the Tweed Coast Rd premises, the men attempted to access the ATM using the sledgehammer.
"After unsuccessful attempts to access the machine the men attempted to remove it by reversing the ute into the premises several times," a police statement said.
"Failing in their attempts, the men left empty handed fleeing in the ute."
Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command are investigating the incident and a crime scene has been established at the petrol station.
Police are now looking for a white Mazda BT-50 ute believed to have been used in the ram raid.
The ute, with Queensland registration 266-RYK, was confirmed stolen from Rochedale in Queensland about 3.30am on Monday, November 12.
Witnesses are being asked to come forward, anyone with information about the ram raid, the identity of the males or the whereabouts of the ute is asked to contact police.
