Hallelujah, Jesus Christ musical to screen in Cooly
JESUS Christ Superstar is making its way to the big screen for one week only.
From November 8 a 21st century re-invention of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera phenomenon, starring Melanie C, Tim Minchin, Chris Moyles and Superstar Ben Forster will play at Birch Carroll and Coyle Coolangatta
It is the musical film for the Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour.
Event Cinemas and Birch Carroll and Coyle Cinemas south-east Queensland marketing manager Kristie Pain said it was a rare opportunity to embrace the story on the big screen.
"Jesus Christ Superstar is a much-loved story that we are thrilled to be able to bring to our guests and expect to have a lot of buzz generated, especially as it is for a special one-week only showing," she said.
"We have worked very hard to broaden our cinema product to include such great content like Jesus Christ Superstar.
"We are thrilled to be able to offer something new and exciting for the cinema going experience to our much loved customers in the Coolangatta and Tweed areas."
Jesus Christ Superstar tells the tale of the last seven days of Jesus Christ (Ben Forster) leading up to his crucifixion, as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot (Tim Minchin).
The musical is translated into modern times, much like Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but with a few more mobile phones and Facebook pages.
This new production was filmed on October 4 and 5 at London's 02 Arena.
Worldwide critics gave it the thumbs up, so instead of travelling to London to get a peek you can see the whole production at the Coolangatta cinemas.
It will screen at 7pm (Qld) for one week from November 8.
Adults will cost $20 and seniors $15.
