THE Greens have called for "prosperity with integrity" to protect the Tweed region.

Launching the party's campaign for the September 8 Tweed Shire Council election, sitting councillor Katie Milne described the region as "smong the most culturally rich areas of Australia".

"We have all the ingredients for prosperity with integrity," Cr Milne said.

"I am very concerned about governance in the shire."

At the last election in 2008 the Greens missed out on a second seat on council by 43 votes.

Cr Milne won a seat at the last election after raising her profile with successful action against a Chinderah marina and is the lead candidate for the Greens in the September election.

NSW Greens' MLC David Shoebridge was in the Tweed to help launch the party's campaign.

"(We have) constantly been impressed by her (Cr Milne) strength," Mr Shoebridge said.

"I haven't seen Katie be silenced.

"I greatly admire all the work you have done and continue to do," Mr Shoebridge said to Cr Milne in front of a small band of supporters.

Cr Milne and Mr Shoebridge launched the Greens campaign at Jack Evans Boat Harbour before both going to tour the site of development Lot 490 near Kingscliff.
