LEGEND has it, you don't choose the mo, the mo chooses you.

And for one Grafton band it's not just a fad to embrace in November but a stance to adopt mo-st of the year.

Movember is an annual, month-long event where moustaches are grown to raise money and awareness for men's mental health and prostate cancer.

As men-folk across the Valley ditch their razors and embrace their facial fuzz for Movember, Mostaccio's Glen McClymont said his band decided to align itself to the cause all year round.

"Everyone in the band knows someone who has been affected by either prostate cancer or depression," Glen said.

The band held a couple of gigs at the start of the month and will be hosting a concert at the Naked Bean in South Grafton on December 1 for mo brothers and mo sisters to celebrate their upper-lip hair.

"Entry at the door will be donated and we'll have the best dressed and the best mo," he said.

"We're hoping it can grow and grow and that Grafton can become the moustache capital of Australia."

As for Glen's favourite mo style, he said he couldn't quite move past the "handlebars".

But for those who are "folically challenged", he recommends the pencil.

How to grow a mo:

The first few days, even weeks, can be uncomfortable as your face crop beings to grow. Stay strong, stay hungry.

A great mo comes down to good grooming.

Nurture your mo; keep it fed, keep it watered.

How to groom a mo:

Keep it clean. As becoming as they are, moustaches collect things and no matter how fine the food, it doesn't belong in your mo.

Moustache hair is coarse and benefits from regular conditioning.

Massage your mo with a dollop of conditioner then rinse thoroughly.

Comb regularly.

Foods to approach with caution when sporting a new mo:

Cappuccino.

Glass of milk.

Irish Cream Ale, Guinness or any of the nitrogenised brews served with a fine creamy mousse.

Spaghetti carbonara.

Meat pie eaten with your hand.
