Gold Coast Council reaches out to Currumbin family

THE family of Currumbin Valley man Chris Walton, who was killed in a freak awning collapse in Burleigh on Saturday, had the Gold Cost City Council reach out to them promising to help the authorities investigate.

Acting mayor Cameron Caldwell expressed sympathy, saying it was a tragic loss.

"This tragic loss will no doubt be felt by his family and friends for many years to come," Cr Caldwell said.

"On behalf of Council, I pass on our condolences to his family and also pass on our thoughts to those injured in this incident.''

The 54-year-old man died at the scene when a James St shop front's awning fell on Saturday morning.

The man was trapped and three women received non-life threatening injuries.

Cr Caldwell said Council would fully co-operate with state authorities investigating the incident.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
