Girl, 11, hit by car on Kennedy Dr yesterday morning

A KENNEDY Dr commuter got a nasty fright when a child ran out in front of their car yesterday morning.

The 11-year-old Tweed Heads girl was struck by the car about 11.45am.

She was taken to Tweed Hospital by ambulance with a fractured leg and arm.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Inspector Greg Jago said a relative of the girl saw the child run onto the road without looking.

"Police were told the driver was going well below the posted 50km speed limit," Insp Jago said.

"There was very heavy traffic flow."

The driver of the Hyundai vehicle produced a negative result to a mandatory breath test.

The incident occurred at the front of Scales fish and chip shop.
