Gilmore on track to defend women's world title
FIVE-TIME Women's ASP world title holder Stephanie Gilmore has firmly placed herself in the Roxy Pro quarter-finals after a grueling duel against Hawaiian Coco Ho.
The heat also included Brazil's Silvana Lima, but she conceded the heat with five minutes to go.
Ho and Lima still have a chance in round four, but Gilmore will go straight into the quarter-finals.
The Tweed surfer said in the third round the surfers tended to let their guards down.
"I put every per cent of effort that I had into that heat and I think it paid off," Gilmore said.
"Coco, she was on fire in round one and I can tell she's really been working on her surfing and her equipment in the off-season.
"And you can see that right now, she's a lot stronger and she put on a good fight."
Final results
Stephanie Gilmore - 17.96
Coco Ho - 17.33
