BYRON Bay Public School principal Geoff Spargo has just returned from Papua New Guinea where he helped organise a cultural show featuring 2000 dancers.

This is the second year Mr Spargo and his wife Sue have volunteered their services at the Morobe Agricultural Show in Lae.

The pair co-ordinated the Sing Sing, which featured traditional dancers from villages all over the country.

"Friends of ours run the show and they asked us whether we would help them," Mr Spargo said.

"Sue and I lived in Papua New Guinea for five years so we are familiar with the country and the people.

"Luckily we speak Pidgin English as this was the only way we could communicate with most of the villagers."

Mr Spargo said the show was spectacular and it was a great experience.

He said Papua New Guineans loved to dance.

The show also featured horse riding and an arrow-shooting competition.

"We always enjoy going to Papua New Guinea and even though it can be a dangerous place to visit and it has its challenges, it's the people that make it worthwhile," Mr Spargo said.

While he was in the country, Mr Spargo also presented dozens of soccer shirts to the Wau Community School.

The shirts were donated from the Bangalow Soccer Club.
