Gardeners bed down for spectacle
QUEENS Park will once again be blooming beautiful come September, thanks to a group of dedicated gardeners.
More than 40,000 seedlings and 7000 bulbs will be used for this year's Carnival of Flowers designs.
Toowoomba Regional Council horticultural officer Matt Schick said there were up to five staff members working on preparing the park for the influx of garden-lovers set to descend on the city.
"We started planting in April and we'll be finished in early July," he said.
"We've been planting a lot of pansies, petunias and snap dragons which will all peak for the carnival."
Co-ordinator of public gardens (north) Gary Arnold said the selection of plants should get a hold before the heavy frosts come.
He said the summer displays would also make a return this year after being shelved due to water restrictions.
"Come October, all the carnival plantings need to be out and then we start on our summer displays," he said.
"At the moment, the water table is up and, with the regular rain of late, we're pretty well covered."
