Freakish cooler temps on way

Forget hot weather fun, this weekend will be significantly cooler than last week.

JUST in case you were thinking about putting your sweaters, jumpers and other woolly, warm, winter clothing in the wardrobe, think again, temperatures are about to drop.

Following last weekend's 33.2 degree scorcher, temperatures are forecast to fall significantly towards the end of this week with the Bureau of Meteorology reporting a cold front will move to the south of the state during Wednesday.

The bureau reports a broad low pressure trough lies over northern and south-eastern NSW and this weekend southerly winds will direct cool air from the south of the state.

However, temperatures won't take us back to the depths of winter with the bureau forecasting weekend temperatures to be around 23 degrees.

By the start of next week, temperatures are forecast to pick up again with 25 to 26 degree highs expected.

Forecasts indicate the chances that the October to December maximum temperature will exceed the long-term median maximum temperature of 27 degrees are above 60% for most of the country including the Tweed.
