Fourth teen charged over robbery

Trevor Veale

A FOURTH boy has been arrested in relation to a violent robbery at the Wiangaree store on Sunday afternoon.

Richmond Local Area Command crime manager, Detective Inspector Greg Moore, said a 15-year-old Casino boy was arrested yesterday and interviewed at the Casino Police Station.

He was later charged with serious armed robbery and related offences.

Det Insp Moore said the boy's arrest followed the arrest of three boys on Monday afternoon - a 13-year-old from Casino, a 15-year-old from Casino and a 17-year-old from Woodenbong.

Police allege that five boys entered the Wiangaree store about 3pm on Sunday, armed with a large stick and a knife.

A 64-year-old man and his 60-year-old wife were bashed in the attack and the offenders stole cash and alcohol before fleeing the scene in a stolen car.

"There is still one more offender outstanding," Det Insp Moore said.

"But the investigation is progressing well, and we anticipate all five juveniles will face charges over this offence.

"Police would also like to take this opportunity to praise the strong response from the Northern Rivers community in supporting our investigation and bringing these offenders before the courts."
