CUDGEN Hornets' campaign in the Gold Coast Rugby League Bycroft Cup received a tremendous boost this week with the signing of two former National Rugby League players.
Linking with the Hornets via Tweed Heads Seagulls ranks are rampaging centre Clinton Toopi and the versatile Dean Widders, both of whom will make their debuts for the club tomorrow when the Hornets host Runaway Bay at Ned Byrne Field (3pm).
Hornets coach Craig Field has persuaded the Seagulls to part with the vastly experienced pair for the rest of the season.
"This is just the news we needed after an ordinary start to the season," Field said.
"The boys looked good at training on Tuesday and Thursday night and easily slipped into our coaching regime. Their presence is just what we needed."
Tweed Coast Raiders, missing a number of key players, are away to Currumbin at Galleon Way tomorrow, while Bilambil Jets have the bye.
