Flying Dutchman Slagter wins Tour Down Under
DUTCH cyclist Tom-Jelte Slagter has taken out the Tour Down Under in South Australia after finishing with the peleton in yesterday's final stage.
German sprint king Andre Greipel made it a record 14 wins in the Tour after outsprinting Slagter's Blanco teammate Mark Renshaw, who led out early in a bid to get his man across the finish line in the race through Adelaide's streets.
But Greipel proved too strong for the Australian and powered home to win his third stage on this year's Tour.
Slagter finished 13 seconds ahead of Spaniard Javier Moreno (Movistar) on the overall standings.
Two-time Olympic track champion Geraint Thomas (Sky), who had lost the overall lead to Slagter on Saturday, improved from fifth to third overall at 25 seconds.
Belgian Ben Hermans (Radioshack) lost time on the final stage and dropped out of the top three.
