Firebugs target bin, hedge and more in one night at Mur'bah

FIREBUGS have struck again this time lighting three separate fires at Knox Park, Murwillumbah, overnight.

The fire comes exactly a week after hoons lit fires and smashed shopfront windows in the town.

Last week the hooligans lit part of the river bank near Commercial Rd and a bin at Knox Park.

NSW Fire and Rescue captain Greg Hayes said a seat, bin and a hedge were all well alight when the crew arrived about 11.30pm.

Just two and a half hours later the firefighters received another unwelcomed call when they were called to a car on fire on Kyogle Rd, Murwillumbah.

Captain Hayes said he wouldn't be surprised if all of the fires were linked.

"I can't say for sure," he said.

"But who else would it be?

"It's a bit too much of a coincidence."

The fire captain said he was getting annoyed with the early wake up calls.

"It's just everyone's got other jobs we're doing," he said.

"It's pretty frustrating.

"People are paying for these people's actions."

The fire comes exactly a week after hoons lit fires and smashed windows in town.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said police would investigate further but could not confirm if the car had been reported stolen.
