Final Tweed election results

THE final results of the Tweed Shire Council election have been released, with conservative Phil Youngblutt securing the last place on the council.

Other sitting councillors Katie Milne, Warren Polglase and mayor Barry Longland were re-elected, while the new faces are Gary Bagnall, Carolyn Byrne and Labor's Michael Armstrong.

Councillor Youngblutt said he thought he would finish higher in the count.

"I didn't do so well in the pre-polling," he said.

Councillors new and old expressed confidence that the new council team would be able to work together effectively.

The new councillors will meet on Monday before a public meeting on Thursday where the councillors will elect one of their colleagues as mayor for the next 12 months.
