MURWILLUMBAH'S Festival of Performing Arts has entered the eighth day of its 81st year.

Festival president Heather Martin said it always amazed her to witness the talent and diversity contained within the event each year.

"It is such a pleasure to see the young students as they progress from year to year and to see the new talent as it emerges each year," Ms Martin said.

"This is our first festival without our past president Arthur Holmes at the helm.

"We hope to live up to his standard and wish him well with his health."

Thursday, June 14, through to Tuesday this week saw the speech and drama sections adjudicated by Patricia Buchanan, who began her working life as a scientist with the Queensland Institute of Medical Research.

Adjudicators Sharny Russel Van Herp, Suzanne Witham and Margaret Baker began the music sections yesterday.

Today will feature a vocal solo by Summer Robinson, a vocal solo - character also by Summer Robinson, a vocal solo by Lenny Hodgkins and Phoebe Robinson and many other acts from 9am.

The afternoon will start at 1.30pm and feature Kristy Pinnell, Gwendolyn Atchison, Lali Hodgkins and Teika Carmichael first up in vocal solos - self-accompanied.

Friday will feature choir, instrumental and small vocal groups from 9.30am.

The festival continues until July 10 and is requesting volunteers during its duration.
