A CAR crash closed Darlington Dr in Banora Point for five hours last night with police closing the scene for forensic examination.

Tweed police Inspector Darren Steel said a Toyota Lexon collided with the rear of a parked Ford Focus hatch about 6pm, 300m north of Banora Hills Dr.

The hatch was shunted about 40m along the footpath into the front yard of a Darlington Dr property.

Emergency services were able to free the driver, a 34-year-old Banora Point man, who was trapped in his car.

He was taken to Tweed Hospital but later transferred to Gold Coast Hospital to undergo surgery for facial injuries.

"Darlington Dr was closed for about five hours," Inspector Steel confirmed.

"Forensic services conducted an examination at the scene."

Inspector Steel said no charges had been laid and police were waiting to speak to the driver

"We haven't been able to speak to him yet to get his side of the story," he said.
