THE death of Coolangatta surfing legend Michael Peterson earlier this year broke the hearts of those who knew him and brought generations of surfers together in respect and awe.

This week My Daily News journalist Rebecca Masters was invited to chat with the woman who knew him best, his mother Joan Watt.

Ms Watt cared for MP in his final, more reclusive years in their south Tweed home and has chosen to share the story of the MP she knew.

Pick up a copy of the Daily News tomorrow where we'll share her memories of the King of Cooly.
