Election update

READERS keen to find out who is on the new Clarence Valley Council may be disappointed to discover that we will not have a definitive announcement until Wednesday.

Officials from the NSW Electoral Commission were not keen to speculate and neither were the candidates themselves.

Looking at the results from the 74% of votes counted so far, we can speculate who will be over at Prince St in a few weeks time.

Richie Williamson has been re-elected and attained 13% more of the popular vote than he did in the 2008 election.

He already has more than three times the number of votes needed to get back on council.

Andrew Baker still needs another 80 votes however, at time of print, he was polling with 9.69% of the vote and will in all likelihood be on the new council.

First-time candidate Jason Kingsley has polled well, achieving 7.96% of the vote so far and shaping up to take a seat.

Sue Hughes is currently polling fourth and with second place on Cr Williamson's how-to-vote card Craig Howe should receive an additional boost when preferences are counted and is also likely to make the cut.

Beyond that things remain too tight to call.

If the final 26% of the vote falls the way of the first 74%, your councillors will be:

  • Richie Williamson
  • Andrew Baker
  • Jason Kingsley
  • Sue Hughes
  • Craig Howe
  • Jim Simmons
  • Jeremy Challacombe
  • Greg Clancy
  • Karen Toms

Information as of 6:30pm September 10, 2012.
