TORRENTIAL rain, choppy seas and high winds didn't deter 18 year-old Louis Le from fishing at Tweed Heads today.

The HSC student left Brisbane at 3am with his dad, Hal to brave the torrents in the quest for the holy mackerel.

Well...brim fish, flathead or trevally would suffice.

Louis is just glad to be fishing.

"My mum won't let me fish during school term," he laughed.

"She and my dad come from Vietnam and are intent on achieving the best for me and my two brothers."

Louis wants to study aerospace engineering.

His brothers are already study engineering.

"I've got big shoes to fill," he said.

Hal Le spent his childhood days fishing on the river in Vietnam.

"I come to Tweed Heads as it's the best spot for a catch," he told My Daily News.

They've been fishing at the same spot for six years.

"I'm not going to let the weather put me off," Louis said.

"After all, I go back to school on Wednesday.

"I'll make the most of it."

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology predicts heavy rain for the rest of Australia Day in Tweed Heads, continuing on Sunday with dangerous surf conditions and more rain for Monday.
