Man faces Dry Dock murder charge

TWEED police will charge a man with murder following the death of another man after an assault at Tweed Heads early in the month.

A 42-year-old man with serious head injuries was driven to Tweed Heads Hospital by another man at about 11am on July 1.

The unconscious man was treated by staff and later transferred to the Gold Coast Hospital in critical condition.

Tweed detectives were contacted by hospital staff and commenced investigations into the incident.

Police established the man was assaulted at a house in Dry Dock Road, Tweed Heads.

During the incident the victim was allegedly punched to the head a number of times and fell to the ground where he was stomped on before a number of witnesses intervened.

As a result of the police investigations a 36-year-old man was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The victim died in Gold Coast Hospital about 5am today.

The 36-year-old man is due to re-appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow where he will be charged with murder.
