Driver blows quadruple the limit

A PALM Beach man was busted driving more than four times the legal alcohol limit in a two-night operation by Queensland police.

Operation Norfolk targeted drink and drug driving on the Gold Coast at Surfers Paradise on Friday and Saturday night.

The 22-year-old man was charged with driving under the influence of liquor with a blood alcohol level of 0.216%.

He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on September 28.

More than 30 people were charged on 38 offences throughout the operation including drink and drug driving, drug related offences and license and registration offences.

A total of 1,082 random breath tests were conducted with 13 people charged with drink driving and eight people charged with drug driving.

Sixty-five traffic infringement notices were issued for offences including failing to wear a seatbelt, speeding and driving defective vehicles.

A 31-year-old Upper Coomera was charged with five offences including possession of a dangerous drug, drug related utensils, tainted property and a knife.

He was also charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle and drink driving.

During the operation, Automated Number Plate Recognition technology was used to help identify a stolen vehicle.

A 19-year-old Surfers Paradise man was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
