AN art group is bringing a little bit of France to the Tweed but it's looking for help.

Tweed Unlimited Arts' Thursday group is hosting a French impressionist soiree and wants people to come along in French-style fancy dress for the occasion.

Thursday group leader Pam Murphy said the French impressionist movement should be celebrated because of its influence on art that has continued through to today.

"They were the first," Ms Murphy said.

"They were a break away from the traditional artists.

"They brought light and happiness to art, and just wanted to do something different."

The French impressionist soiree is a fundraiser for upkeep of Tweed Unlimited Arts and work from artists in the Thursday art program will be sold on the day.

Some "famous paintings" from the impressionist era that local artists have copied will also be up for sale.

"We usually have an exhibition each year and we thought who not hold it at our premises," Ms Murphy said.

It's on at the gallery on Pioneer Pde Saturday, October 20, from 6-10pm.
