‘Dodo’ takes flight for first time at 99 years of age
TWEED nonagenarian Doris 'Dodo' Hall is back home after the first plane ride of her life which took her to Thailand for a 10-day shopping spree.
Mrs Hall's daughter Sylvia Adams and her husband Roy talked her into joining them on the trip and do some Christmas shopping in the Thai capital, Bangkok.
Mrs Hall said she loved flying and hoped to follow her trip to Thailand with a trip to France.
"I had a great time in the plane and the flight crew made a real fuss over me.
"I got a bottle of champagne and every single stewardess and steward on the Thai Airways International flight queued up to meet me."
Mrs Adams said her mother remained fearless even when the plane was caught in some turbulence.
"I turned to Mum and said I didn't like the movement of the plane.
"She told me she thought it was fun," Mrs Adams said.
Mrs Hall said although the crowds of Bangkok were a little claustrophobic she enjoyed the day-trips outside the capital.
"We visited magnificent rose gardens some four hours outside Bangkok and enjoyed a river cruise on an old rice barge," Mrs Hall said.
Mrs Adams said her mum had no problems dealing with the heat and humidity and acclimatised without any issues.
"Mum loved the Thai food apart from the spicy curries and managed to knock back several Mai-tais during a night cruise on the Chao Praya River which runs through Bangkok," Mrs Adams said.
Mrs Hall said her next trip would definitely not be to Asia and she would love to go to France.
"The time it takes to fly to Europe is a bit long though," Mrs Hall said.
