Daughters help dad win support
IF Bruce Campbell is elected as a Tweed Shire Councillor this weekend, he will owe a big debt of gratitude to his daughters, Eliza and Courtney.
Eliza and Courtney have both helped their father with his campaign and were by his side at Tweed's pre-polling booth this week to hand out how to vote flyers.
20-year-old Courtney put her interior design studies on hold to help her father achieve his goal of becoming a Tweed Shire councillor and said she'd enjoyed meeting members of the community.
Courtney made up her father's flyers and is in charge of Mr Campbell's polling booth efforts on the weekend.
"It's been fun although standing out in the cold was not all that great," Courtney said.
Courtney added helping her dad with his campaign had given her some interest in one day running for public office herself.
Keen soccer player, year 12 student and chef's apprentice Eliza also joined her dad at the pre-polling booth before taking off for Newcastle where she'll play keeper for the Newcastle Jets on the weekend.
Eliza, 17, hopes to play in the German Bundesliga one day, and has already made the highest grade by playing for the under 17's Australian girls soccer team.
Mr Campbell said he hoped to join the council to address some of the serious problems faced by shire residents.
The first-time candidate, schoolbus driver and part time farmer said he ran because he was interested in the shire's expenditure and infrastructure, especially in Tweed Heads West.
"The roads are appalling and there doesn't seem to be a plan for the future," Mr Campbell said.
