ENTHUSIASM, poise and a lot of hard work has paid off for 14-year-old Kingscliff High School student Brieannah Gibson.

The dedicated young dancer travelled to Grafton earlier this month to audition for an elite troupe headed by Australia's leading indigenous performing arts company Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Miss Gibson was one of just 18 students across the state who had that "special spark" and will perform at the November Schools Spectacular showcase in Sydney under the tutoring of Bangarra dancers.

The two-day workshop was held under the guidance of renowned Bangarra performers Sidney Saltner and Sani Townson in partnership with the NSW Education and Communities Arts Unit.

The experience could set Miss Gibson up for a long career in indigenous dance.

"It was really fun and I met heaps of people from all over NSW," Miss Gibson said.

"They really make you feel like you fit in."
