THE Gold Coast is getting a crash course in the impacts of coal seam gas mining from a Tweed campaigner who has fought the industry for years.

Lock the Gate Tweed's Michael McNamara will be addressing a Gecko speaker's night on Wednesday.

Gecko is an environmental group based in Currumbin.

Mr McNamara said CSG was an issue for the Gold Coast.

"Gecko has a commitment against CSG," Mr McNamara said.

"There is a small group of people who are very active against CSG.

"They have invited me and I'm more than happy to take up the invitation."

Mr McNamara said Queensland was much more advanced on its CSG industry than NSW.

"I would love to see the Gold Coast more active on the issue," he said.

"As with other urban areas, they don't think that CSG is an issue but as we see (with) west and south-west Sydney, that's wrong."

Mr McNamara has been busy this year campaigning against CSG.

He was part of a blockade of a drill site at Glenugie where 18 people were arrested.

The CSG activist also visited the Doubtful Creek site where another blockade was set up this week.

Gecko-Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council CSG campaigner Kathleen Green said it was essential that city people understood the implications of coal seam gas mining.

"This issue affects everyone, not just the farmers struggling to keep the miners off their property," Ms Green said.

"Gecko urges all those concerned about human health as well as the destruction of the natural environment to come along and hear Michael on January 23."

Gecko House is at 139 Duringan St, Currumbin.

Doors open at 6.30pm for Mr McNamara's lecture.
