ARTIST Racheal Ambler has never watched the movie Avatar but it hasn't stopped her from creating blue Na'vi babies in honour of the film.

The Na'vi were the native inhabitants of the planet Pandora, which was the setting for the 2009 film Avatar.

"I personally haven't seen the movie but I have had it on in the background and I used stills to help with the creations," Mrs Ambler said.

The idea to make Na'vi babies was first suggested to her about a year ago from a friend who wanted one.

"I notice a few were being sold on eBay by other artists so I thought I would give it a go," she said.

"As soon as I put my first ones up on Facebook I had eight people emailing me."

Mrs Ambler has been making babies for about two years after a passion for craft turned into a baby making obsession.

"I have been at this for about two years and made 140 babies," she said.

"I wanted to try something different, something in fantasy."

"I actually have to use sculpture clay to form the nose and ears. I also hand-sculpt the tail," she said.

"They (Na'vi babies) are harder to let go of because they were harder to create," she said.

"I am very keen to get on and make them again."

But for now Mrs Ambler said she was going to take a short break from making Na'vi babies while she prepares for a show in Brisbane in June.
