PLANS to rebuild Kingscliff police station as a regional headquarters have been frozen in their tracks by the NSW Land and Environment Court.

In a judgment handed down Thursday afternoon, the court ruled in favour of a Kingscliff businesses and residents group and put a halt to a police station in the coastal town.

Justice Peter Biscoe ruled that a Kingscliff Police Station development application that the Northern Region Joint Planning Panel approved last year was invalid.

Justice Biscoe also stops parties from acting on the application approval.

Tweed Business and Residents Focus Group took the state government's planning panel to court in an effort to stop the development that the panel approved last year.

At the time of announcing the action in January, group president and Kingscliff LJ Hooker principal Paul McMahon said the action was taken because the two-storey development was too far from the Pacific Hwy and would ruin the foreshore and lifestyle of residents and tourists.

A NSW Government spokesman said the decision will be read in its entirety before making any statement.
