TWEED Shire Council will hold an extraordinary meeting today to reconsider a decision made at last week's ordinary council meeting.

At a five hour meeting of the council it resolved to call an urgent meeting with the NSW Minister for Planning, Brad Hazzard, to discuss concerns about environmental protection measures in the Tweed Local Environmental Plan (LEP).

The councillors also resolved to include in the LEP the draft Environmental Strategy and the Tweed Coast Koala Habitat Study.

However, a recision motion was put up by Councillors Phil Youngblutt, Warren Polglase and Carolyn Byrne and will be voted on today.

There are concerns the LEP will not be lodged in time to meet the June State Government deadline.

Councillors are also expected to receive an update on recent flood events at the meeting.

The meeting will be held at Murwillumbah Cultural Civic Centre at 3pm and is open to the general public.
