COOLANGATTA foreshore is expected to receive $880,000 from the $4.4 million in capital works which was recommended by Gold Coast City Council Engineering Service Committee today.

Committee chair Cr Daphne McDonald said the 2011-12 capital works program addresses structural issues that are present in both urban and city areas

"In total there are 38 projects that are ready to go," she said.

"They include big ticket whole-of-city items as well as equally important smaller divisional works, such as bus stop upgrades, kerb and channeling."

Giltrap Park will be of specific focus for the Coolangatta funding, and will include a range of improvements ranging from upgraded stormwater culverts to dunal regeneration.

"One of bigger jobs is the $880,000 project along the foreshore and in Giltrap Park at Coolangatta," Cr McDonald said.

"It will replace ageing stormwater culverts to ensure the existing drainage is maintained.

"This includes replacing a 38-metre section of culvert, returfing the park and regenerating the surrounding dunal areas."

The recommendation will go to full Council on Tuesday for final approval.
