Confusion over environmental zones

BYRON Shire Council has voted to contact landowners with e-zones under the local environment plan (LEP) by mail once they have been reviewed by State Government consultants next month.

Deputy mayor Cr Diane Woods said despite council conducting information sessions for landowners, there were still a lot of people who did not understand the effect of the controversial proposed E2, E3, and E4 zonings.

Bangalow landowner Rex Harris, who describes himself as a farmer and conservationist, said 2,500 rural lots would have their property rights affected under the shire's proposed LEP changes.

"There's an awful lot of people who don't know that their land's going to be rezoned," Mr Harris said.
