Community speaks on school site

THE building of a Pottsville high school is one issue that council candidates may have to answer tonight at a community meeting but first residents will have their say on the abandonment of a high-school site in Seabreeze Estate.

A community consultation meeting at 6pm on Tweed Shire Council's decision to remove a high school site from the Seabreeze development will prelude a meet-the-candidate meeting at the Pottsville Community Hall.

The council's decision in July to remove the site and hold a public meeting was to get feedback from the community on a high school in the region.

Councillor Warren Polglase was a strong supporter of the amendment going to the public for comment and having the public meeting.

Cr Katie Milne was concerned about the remifications of removing the site.

Cr Kevin Skinner said it was unlikely the state government would listen without a strong community voice.

"The government (NSW) does not move co-operatively with us council," Cr Skinner said at the time.

"If we don't hear it from the people then the government will not listen to us."
