Christmas lights coming down for another year
THE lights are coming down at Stokers Siding. David White is removing his Christmas lights for another year after raising $2500 for charity.
Mr White said more than 2000 people came to admire the lights this year.
"We made about $700 more than last year," he said.
The display, with 120,000 lights, was one of the largest private displays on the Tweed.
Mr White and his wife Marilyn spent seven weeks setting up the lights across five acres on their property in Stokers Siding.
Mr White said this was the biggest year to date for the operation.
"Besides creating something to brighten the Christmas spirit, we also collect voluntary donations to the Murwillumbah Children's Leukaemia / Cancer Research Society," he said at the time the lights went up.
"We have erected the light display each Christmas since arriving from Sydney in 2007," he said.
"Following offers to pay monies toward power, my wife came up with the idea of donating to a cause two years ago."
Although the family try to change the display every year, Mr White said other factors had to be considered.
"It's become more about colour co-ordination," he said.
