Chill hits Tweed overnight

THERE was a definite chill in the air this morning across the Tweed shire.

Overnight, the temperature dropped to just eight degrees in Murwillumbah, making it the coldest night of the year so far.

Weather Channel senior meteorologist Tom Saunders said the low temperature was eight degrees below average.

But the chill won't hang around for long with warmer temperatures expected over the weekend along with a little rain.

"By Saturday the minimum temperatures will be around 15 degrees, Mr Saunders said.

"But the maximum temperatures will only reach about 22.

"The sun has been nice today but there'll be cloudy skies on Friday and Saturday with some showers.

"The rain is coming down from Queensland so not too cold, just wet.

He said the heaviest falls would be on Saturday with showers to ease by Monday.
