PARENTS have been urged to not leave children locked in vehicles because temperatures inside could hit around 60 degrees in two minutes.

Acting Community Safety Minister Steve Dickson said all parents should remain alert and take precautions for their children as they can be more prone to heat-related illnesses.

"Young children are especially at risk because their nervous system is not fully developed and they cannot adapt to rising temperatures," he said.

Mr Dickson said with above-average temperatures already being experienced across the state children and babies left in the car could really suffer in the heat.

"In a hot car, they can die in less than 30 minutes," he said.

"If you suspect someone may be suffering from heat call 000 immediately."
