NEW Year's Eve at Byron Bay this year will feature a twilight beach market, amusements rides, entertainment and two fireworks shows - one each for the little and big kids.

Due to public demand for more family-friendly celebrations, Byron United - the town's peak business group - has contributed $15,000 to finance both a 9pm and midnight fireworks display. "Without their support, we would not be going out with a BANG… so to speak," mayor Cr Richardson said.

The drug and alcohol free event, which attracted a crowd of more than 10,000 last year, starts at 4pm in Apex Park. Jonson St will be closed at the Lawson St roundabout up to Main Beach for the celebrations.

Bay Street will be closed at the corner of Fletcher St.

Bay Lane will be restricted to residents and delivery vehicles between Fletcher and Jonson streets.

Street closures will between at 6am on Monday December 31.

The streets will be re-opened at 6am on Tuesday January 1.
