Celebrating a decade of building
HUTCHINSON Builders employees across Tweed and the Gold Coast will be hanging up their hard hats this evening to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary on the coast.
Almost 400 people are expected to attend, with invited guests that include local MPs, councillors, sporting groups and 1978 Surfing World Champion Rabbit Bartholomew in recognition of the current construction of the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
Fittingly, the night will be celebrated at the Casuarina Sandbar & Grill, the first project of Hutchinson Builders in Casuarina when the Tweed office was opened in 2002.
Hutchinson Builders area manager Paul Hart said the company has done many developments around Casuarina area.
"In fact, we built almost everything on this block, including the Casuarina residential development, which was one of out largest projects at the time nationally," Mr Hart said.
He said that the Hutchies crew had a good association with Surfing Australia and will be excited to finish the world's first training institute dedicated to the development of elite surfers and coaches.
"Almost everyone at the Tweed Heads office surfs, so you can imagine this has been a popular project."
The company has delivered world-class projects and social infrastructure in the region, including 'The Beach' Resort at Cabarita Beach, and is now starting a $40 million tower at Southern Cross University.
Since the establishment of the Tweed Heads office, Mr Hart said the local workforce has grown to 150 employees, including on and off-site staff.
"During this time, Hutchies has developed an apprentice scheme that currently employs over 75 apprentices," he said.
"Several of our employees are celebrating tern years with Tweed Heads office this year.
"It's all adding up to a good night."
