WITH DAMP conditions prevailing throughout Saturday morning, entrants in the Maclean Billycart Derby had to negotiate a slippery track.

Their skills were greatly tested, as carts gathered significant speed as they raced down the hill at Maclean Showground.

A number of challenging corners tested many of the contestants.

Maclean Lion's Club President George Priddle said despite the number of entrants being down slightly on previous years, around 100 people turned out to watch and to enjoy the day of fun racing.

Competitiors came from far and wide to test their skills.

This year's open winner Spud Anderson made the trip to Maclean all the way from the Gold Coast.

Local kids Mitch Horne and Ela Reid took out the junior divisions.

The Maclean Lions Club stages the event to provide a spectacle for the community.

"Everybody was very happy with how the day went," Mr Priddle said.

"The numbers were down a little, but I put that down to the weather and the fact Saturday is a work day."
